Winter maintenance AGM maintenance-free lead and lithium batteries

We often get the question "how do you treat batteries in the winter?" around this time. This is an important question and there are a number of rules to take into account so that you can hit the road again in the spring with a fresh battery. Especially the AGM maintenance-free lead-acid batteries that we use in our machines need to be well cared for during standstill. Keep the following points in mind:

 

AGM maintenance-free lead acid batteries

1. In the winter period, storage and charging in a frost-free room is a recommendation, if you do not use the machine for more than 4 weeks it should be discharged 50% every 4-5 weeks and fully charged again and always leave the charger on as a trickle charger.
2. Keep in mind that with frost the range can be reduced by up to 50%, empty batteries and frost is a bad combination and will quickly limit service life.
3. Preferably charge the battery above 10 degrees. This makes a huge difference for longer life.

Lithium batteries

1. During the winter period, storage in a frost-free room is a recommendation, if you do not use the machine for more than 4 weeks make sure the battery is charged at about 50% charge level and kept during no use.
   Do not leave the charger connected, it has no trickle charger function.
2. The battery should never be charged at temperatures below zero; charging below zero may damage the Lithium battery.
3. Keep in mind that with frost, the range of action can be reduced by as much as 30%.
4. For normal use during the frost period, ensure that the battery is recharged immediately after use.
